Below is a review of this week's sold out concert at Royal Albert Hall in London which hailed Pink Martini as "one of the world’s most elegant live bands!" The author also gave us 5 stars which is truly rare!! I'm so blessed to be apart!
27.05.2012 - Pink Martini, world-music for 4000 fansLast night at the Palace Hall, Pink Martini fought the rain with their brilliance, attended by over 4000 people. Their sold out show was sprinkled with hits sung in no less than ten languages (English, Spanish, French, Hebrew, Japanese, Russian, Italian, Turkish, Croatian and Romanian ...). The concert was organized by Events and presented by Ciuc Premium, official beer of live music.
Thomas Lauderdale (piano), singer Storm Large, bassist Philip Baker, Gavin Bondy (trumpet), Jeffrey Buda (trombone), Pansy Chang (cello), Brian Lavern Davis (percussion), Daniel Faehnle (guitar), Anthony Jones (drums), Timothy Nishimoto (percussion & backup vocals) and Derek Rieth (percussion) have demonstrated once again that beauty has no boundaries. They started the show in force directly in the film register, with "Amado mio", a classic that opens the band's debut album, "Sympathique" (1997), the song was received with enthusiastic applause of fans filling the hall to the brim. Pink Martini hits followed in crescendo, hummed by spectators. "Quizás, Quizás, Quizás", "Sympathique", "DONDI estas Yolanda?", "One Notte a Napoli", "Let's Never Stop Falling In Love", "Hang On Little Tomato" ... Storm Large, graceful, jaunty, in a dark blue dress, flowing on her perfect figure never tried to replace China Forbes, Pink Martini's original voice, now in a rest period for medical reasons, but on the contrary, she has left her mark on every song , and literally filled the scene with her overflowing presence.
One of the highlights of the show was their cover of the song "Pana cand nu te iubeam" by Maria Tanase, collected by Anton Pann, a premiere (it is the first time Pink Martini sings in Romanian in our country). Band leader Thomas Lauderdale, has been looking for a long time a piece of music to play in Romanian - he announced this intention in their last year concert in Bucharest. Lauderdale holds in his impressive collection of records albums with George Zamfir, Maria Tanase and George Enescu. Storm told the audience: "I am singing in 14 languages, but Romanian is one of the most beautiful language I have heard, and I love how my name sounds translated - furtuna mare (Storm Large) ". After nearly two hours of sensational music, Pink Martini came back on stage for an encore, an opportunity for inviting the audience to dance and the Brazilian samba & perfume invaded the Palace Hall. The whole band gave fans autographs in the foyer after the concert.
